Hosted by AMVETS Post 124.
At the beginning of the ceremony strips of the American Flag were handed out to the crowd for each one to personally place on the fire. Those with the red stripes walked to the fire pit first as the speaker described what the color symbolized.
" The red stripes symbolize the blood shed by those passed on before us."
The white stripes were next, symbolizing purity, as well as tears shed for those who have passed on. The blue field was laid to rest last, and symbolizes valor and courage that holds our states together.
The 299th Chemical Company of the Kentucky National Guardperformed the 21 gun salute.
After the ceremony everyone was invited to the cookout to share a meal with friends.
Many present said they were there in honor of the veterans who served under the flag, as well as to pay their respects to the greatest symbol of freedom the nation has. We are all Americans, we serve under one flag. No Veteran should ever be catagorized, we all bleed the same way, we bleed for freedom.
