VETERANS PARK PROPOSED TO SURROUND NEW VISITORS CENTER.
combining two cuauses on 2.5 acre piece of land. AMVETS Post 124 discussed their proposal for a veterans park with city commissioner Thursday evening August 10, 2006 during the regular city commission meeting.
The city had plans to use the land for a visitors center. However Assistant city Manager Ray Young said it was the "perfect location," to be expanded into a veterans park.
" I think it's an excellent use of the land", he said.
AMVETS Commander Gene Hook said he hoped the park would be a "shinning beacon" that will represent the support of the community and will honor all veterans, past, present, and future.
" It's a massive project, it's a tremendous undertaking," Hook said, adding that with the AMVETS family and the community behind it, the park will eventually be in place.
City Manager Rommie Griffey said the park was a "unique opportunity" to combine the visitors center and a park, offering a second reason for people to stop there.
" I think it's a win-win for everybody.
