Click to Enlarge Veterans Remembered across the area. Solemn words and praise for military service were heard at memorial services across the Buffalo Trace area Monday as families and officials gathered at cemeteries and memorials. At Limestone landing, AMVETS post 124 gathered near the fountain to compliment services of veterans, from the earliest conflicts that created this nation to veterans of the Iraq War. Many dignitaries accented their praise with words once uttered by those long gone. Dignitaries attending the ceremony with words of praise included Maysville's Mayor David Cartmell, County Judge Executive Marine veteran James L (Buddy) Gallenstein and Representive Army Reserve veteran Mike Denham. Click to Enlarge As clouds shrouded the hot mid-afternoon sun AMVETS Public relations Officer Glenn George Introduced Kimberly Sparks, Who sang a medley of patriotic songs and encouraged the audience to sing along.
Shortly before 3:00 P.M., a 21 gun salute, fired by the 299th Chemical Company cracked the silence of the sweltering heat.
A National moment of silence was held as the clock struck 3:00 P.M. and " Taps " was played by Sfc Dan Sims, one of the unit members who had served in Iraq. Following the ceremony, the crowd was invited to a re-ception at the Maysville Conference center.
